‘Travel Writer in a Day’ Intensive (including mini 'famil' excursion)

So you love to travel. And you love to write. Maybe you take a good picture, too. So what next? Award-winning travel writer, content creator and The Travel Ten managing editor Jac Taylor (above, actually on assignment up there eating her lobster, poor pumpkin) shares a lifetime of experience to give you a one-day intensive lowdown on what it takes to be a travel writer, photographer and/or social media superstar.

Topics covered:
  • How to write the pitch that gets you published

  • How to craft the story that raises you to professional status

  • How to choose your destinations to get you selling stories

  • How to make friends and influence people – on social media, that is

  • How to make money from your photography or videography

  • How to score a spot on a media ‘famil’ trip (and how to get invited back!)

  • How to best use technology to raise your game

  • How to write creatively on a ridiculous deadline, no sleep and a bellyful of wine. Ahem.

The day is massively full of detail, so bring your notebook. It also includes a very special exclusive extra: a mini media ‘famil’ familiarisation excursion to a great travel location nearby to practise your newfound skills!

This workshop is only run intermittently through the year, as Jac is often overseas doing that whole travel-writer thing, and places are limited to 10 people per workshop to ensure everyone gets to ask the questions they want to. The cost of the full-day workshop is $295, including the exclusive media 'famil' excursion!

Picture-perfect holiday: capturing your next trip with style and substance

You have a decent camera. Your Instagram does the trick. But you’ve seen other people do cool stuff with 360-degree cameras or awesome video apps and you don’t really know where to begin with all that. This workshop is for you: a hands-on and extremely enjoyable way to play with new technology (yes, in your hands for you to try) such as steadycam gimbals for pro-looking videos, seamless 360-degree cameras, a swagful of video and photo apps that will elevate your photography and video from go to whoaaaa without needing any new hardware (apart from a decent smartphone) and plenty more.

This is based on a workshop delivered by our managing editor Jac Taylor not once but twice (by popular demand) to the members of the exclusive Australian Society of Travel Writers. Yep. This one was originally made for the cream of the crop of Aussie travel media professionals, and now it’s available to you. You’ll walk away with practical experience of cutting-edge technology, and a headful of brand new ideas on how to make your next holiday pictures truly amazing.

This workshop is only run very occasionally, as the equipment you’ll use is specially acquired for the day, and Jac is often away on assignment. Places are strictly limited to 10 people per workshop to ensure everyone gets a chance to try out everything. The cost for the full-day workshop is $270, including hands-on experience of all equipment.
